Fall is my Favorite!

Fall has always been my favorite time of year.  In Arizona it meant temps below 100.  Here in Colorado it means an explosion of color and temps below 60.  It means cold, crisp mornings and a time for soup. It means being thankful and I have so many blessings to be thankful for.  I love fall!

For the last two weekends I've embarked on a drive to see the change in the Aspens and have not been disappointed.  Here are a bunch of pictures.  They are pretty but this dirt road we took was so amazing - the trees, the stream, the quiet hugging you.  The only noise was the rustling of the leaves and the water flowing over the rocks.  Talk about a perfect couple of days!

Fall Has Arrived

Greetings from the forest

We have officially entered the fall season.  Living in Arizona it meant the temps were down to 100 as we waited for the winter months.  Here in Colorado it means the trees are changing colors, the evenings are in the 40's and 50's and the days are 75 to 80.  Crisp clear mornings are so invigorating but the getting light later is difficult no matter where you live.  There is a dusting of snow on the Sangre de Cristo mountains.  It is a preview of whats to come.

Although busy it was a quiet week.  Except for, of course, the cows!  Yesterday a momma cow lost her baby right by my house and she bellowed and bellowed, then all the mommas got into the groove and moo'd.  I asked them nicely to go down the road (for any neighbors reading this, I was not really herding them away from my house) but they kept coming back.  Max and Ollie were going nuts.  Finally they moooooved on but returned, are you ready, at 2:45 this morning!  Oh seriously don't they sleep.  Yes neighbors I was herding them then in my jammies and slippers at 2:45!! They came back at 6 a.m.  Or perhaps it was another group.  Regardless, they do a great job mowing just hate the fertilizing.

Last week I got to see my favorite horse, MoTar.  This silly horse followed me around the property while I was taking pictures for our listing.  Here are a couple of pics.  Seriously I love this horse!  And he is for sale.  Problem is horses are expensive and although I could probably get a good price on him, its all the accessories like the new truck to pull the new horse trailer, the corral and barn I'd need to build, the hay, the grain, and the second horse to keep him company.  Guess I'll have to wait awhile, like until I hit the lottery.

While out taking photos of our horse property listing I drove by an interesting little cemetery on a county road.  Here is a picture along with an old wind mill and a lovely little pond. And we had a beautiful full moon.

Just Babble

Good morning from the soggy forest -

Remember a few months ago we were praying for rain?  Ok, just for the record, Boulder and cities south have had enough.  It can stop now.  Although around here we've had a lot, the forest could still use a shower or two.  No complaints from me or the weeds.

This last week has been great.  Busy.  I made a tomato pie for some friends who shared a ton of tomatoes with me because they had to leave town for a family emergency.  I made the pie on the day of their return and they said it was great.  I can't wait to make another just to try it myself.  I have to say it did turn out pretty.

Also on the food front I made a great corn, zucchini and tomato salad with a cilantro dressing.  It was really good with chicken and then for a couple of days I just added it to my green salad.  Yummo.

On Saturday sister Deb and I went to the Artocade.  It is a parade where people decorate their cars.  It was really fun.  Very small town USA.  There were over 50 cars in the parade so obviously its pretty popular.  Here are some photos -

Super creative and it made dinosaur noises

This van was from the local animal shelter, Noah's Ark.  There were several people following the van with dogs on leashes.  One little girl had a puppy on a leash and it kept stopping.  It looked like a black lab puppy and it was tired and just wasn't walking anymore.  She'd stop pick it up walk for a few steps and set it down.  The puppy wouldn't move so she'd pick it up and go a few more steps.  It was so cute.

Ok, I know this might be silly but - isn't this a pretty cow?  Look at her hide.  Who knew cows could be pretty, well that's a bit of an exaggeration but if there was a Miss Cow America beauty contest this gal would win!

Moving on to work babble, its been very busy.  Last Saturday I spent several hours taking clients around to see houses.  Are you sitting down?  They made an offer and it was accepted!  Yippie.

Greetings from the forest

The weather of late has been a tad warm but who's complaining?  Certainly not me when I see the 108-110 in Arizona!  It cools down at night here and that makes the warm days so much more bearable.

There were turkeys in the driveway this morning.  Turkeys are a sign of a gift according to Indian Medicine, much like a beautiful sunset.  No, the dogs did not go out to see them.

We also had cows the other day, several that kept coming back, I must have yummy grass?  In the morning, the cows first visit, I let the dogs out on the deck and they barked their fool heads off.  My neighbor texted me to see if those were my "dogs making that noise".  Well of course!  They're city dogs trying to herd cows from the confines of a deck. lol.  Later that day I looked out the living room door and there was a giant cow right there by the fence by the door.  I'm serious, she was huge.  I've never seen a cow that big.  And just for the record she was quite pretty, a lovely taupe color. I got out the door without the dogs (a feat in itself) and shoo'd her away.  She wasn't happy with me.  She stopped and moo'd at me and I'm sure translated she was calling me a - well you know! lol.  I looked across the drive and there were a bunch more, several even laying down taking a break.  Oye.  So I moved them along. I'm sure they too were calling me bad names. Seriously, weed eating and fertilizing at the same time.  And just for the record, they need to do a better job at weed eating and a little less fertilizing!

Yesterday morning there were a group of deer in the yard just outside the fence.  Fortunately I saw them from upstairs before letting Max and Ollie out.  I went out and shoo'd them away too.  They were about as obedient as the darn cows.  Just stood there looking at me.  Perhaps I have no authority in the animal world?  Anyway, finally they moved on and the boys got to go outside.  No pictures of these young bucks but next time, I promise.

A lovely day

Greetings from the forest

So what is your idea of a perfect day?  Mine is a day filled with giggles and smiles.  Sunshine and animals.  Good feelings and friends.

A week ago Monday was just such a day.  I went to see a horse property to list with Rick and was greeted by not only nice humans but also a sweet chocolate lab that brought me a stick to throw.  Yup I fell for that ploy, threw the stick a few times and when I said nope we're done she brought me a bigger stick!  By the time we were getting ready to leave the property sweet Cheyenne had brought me a log to throw.  Such an optimistic puppy dog.

There were also 3 horses on the property.  Two wandered up to me so I said hello.  Then as I was standing there both of these horses started nuzzling the back of my neck and hair.  Holy moly.  I guess I attract horses too!  We all got quite the giggle.  I wanted to bring home one of the horses but Rick said I couldn't.  Thank you Rick.  I'm excited to list this property with Rick.  Its 70 acres of beautiful pastures surrounded by mountains and pines.  And, this is exciting, they have two gardens!

Our day continued to a beautiful property in a community called Eagles Landing.  At the top of the mountain is this incredible home with the most breathtaking view I've ever seen.  Steve, the owner was super nice and so gracious to show me their home.  I could have stayed all day just looking at the view. Pictures will not do it justice but I'll share...

We had lunch at a cute little cafe in Stonewall and then headed back to Trinidad.  It was cloudy but we missed the rain.  Later I returned home to Oliver and Max who were happy to see me until of course they smelled the dogs and horses on me.  I'm such a traitor!

Now for the animal update -  last week about 9:30 pm Max started growling at the living room door.  I had the blinds down so he only had about a 6" area to peek through.  I thought maybe the toad was back and got up to look.  Thank goodness I now know better than to just walk out because there was a small bear looking at me through the glass.  Max began to bark and the little guy high tailed it out of there.  I think he was admiring (and planning to munch on) my sweet potato plant. No chance for a picture unfortunately.  My neighbors have said they've seen the lil guy around but no Mama.  Hope he's not all alone.  Just for the record, he hasn't been back.
